This is a real 340 road runner, not a clone or tribute car. It still has the original 340 engine,727 torqueflite transmission, 8 3/4 rear axle with 3. 23 gears. I bought this car in 1999 and at that time had the body and paint completely refinished. The car was painted in its original color b3 (petty blue) both front and rear bumpers were re-chromed and all trim was cleaned and polished. I have had this car for 15 years now and it is time for someone else to share the enjoyment of this fun car. And believe me this car will cruse all day and get 16-18 miles to the gallon. A new legendary interior was installed with black bucket front seats and center buddy seat. It has power disc brakes and power steering with all new front control arm bushings, ball joints and tie rods. It has been stored in a climate controlled garage since the restoration and never driven in rain or snow. The engine will drip a little oil on the garage floor when parked for long periods of time, but runs great.

2012 mazda mazda2 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Zoom-zooming into its second year. introductionthe mazda2 is a five-seat hatchback, front-wheel-drive subcompact, taking on the toyota yaris, nissan versa, honda fit, ford fiesta, chevrolet sonic, fiat 500, hyundai accent and kia soul. That's a wonderful field of cars for these times (subcompact is the fastest growing automotive segment in the world), and the mazda2 has qualities that, to many, make it the most desirable of this bunch.  the mazda2 was completely redesigned for 2011, so there are no changes for 2012. While new to north america, this is actually the second generation of the mazda2. It makes 100 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 98 pound-feet of torque at 4000 rpm. We had no trouble, in fact we had a blast, running in the fast lane with the 75-mph flow of los angeles freeway traffic. In 310 miles of combined city and highway driving, we averaged 34. 8 miles per gallon, at the top end of the epa estimate of 29 city/35 highway mpg for the 2012 mazda2.  in pursuit of good gas mileage, acceleration and responsive handling, mazda focused on keeping the car light, by using high-strength steel with more welds (and less steel overall), and weld-bonded adhesives in the body. Engineers looked for dozens of places to save a few pounds, for example the wiring harness, door locks and latches, radiator, automatic transmission shifter, pedals, stereo speakers and more. It's this painstaking attention to mechanical detail that makes mazda an exceptional car company.  the final result is 2306 pounds, even less than the two-seat mazda mx5 sports car. It's the lightest subcompact, even lighter than the smaller fiat 500, and way lighter than the ford fiesta, although the toyota yaris is a close second. The yaris has 6 more horsepower, but is not nearly as much fun to drive.  the seats are comfortable and supportive, and we liked the thick, sporty steering wheel. Although rated as a five-seater, we wouldn't subject a fifth person to the back seat for long, but that's no different than any other car in this class. It zoom-zooms to scale. The little engine is gutsy, with a cocky tone at upper revs. Shifting the manual 5-speed is slick and easy. Responsive brakes and steering. Smooth ride and flat cornering. Bluetooth wireless for hands-free cellphone operation 95) is available, also a rear bumper guard 80), cargo net 40), center console with armrest 170). It also has mazda's first brake priority system that automatically puts the brakes on whenever the brake and accelerator pedals are pressed simultaneously. The mazda2 gets europe's highest crash rating of five stars. walkaroundthe styling is fresh, and it's eye-catching in a cute sort of way. The grille isn't loved by everyone, but it is distinctive, which isn't easy to do considering there's no grille work. The hood, fenders, headlamps, bumper, air intakes and 15-inch wheels are all well done, adding character.  the halogen headlamp units flow from the gentle bulge of the front fenders. The three-spoke steering wheel works well, with a meaty rim that makes the mazda2 feel like a sports car, and a padded hub. We think it might look better without all that aluminumy plastic trim on the wide spokes, but no big deal. It tilts for adjustment, and the driver's seat raises and lowers, so almost anyone can find a good place behind the wheel.  what we call aluminumy plastic mazda calls silver garnish, and there's more of it on the vents, armrests, shift knob and gate, where it looks good in sparing doses.  the shifter, manual or automatic, rises from just below the instrument panel where the center console would be if there was one. There's a console with storage tray and cupholders that goes between the seats, with an optional leather padded armrest that we found nice to have. It's no stretch at all to shift gears. The 5-speed stick is easy to reach and fun to use.  the dashboard flows in a continuous line and curves away from occupants, making the cabin feel wide. Certainly there's lots of elbow room. Mazda engineers worked carefully on the position and cross-sectional shape of the a-pillars, which along with a low beltline enable clear forward visibility and also help the car feel roomy.  the cluster of three gauges in front of the driver's eyes is shaded by an eave, with the speedo in center, smaller tach on the left, and the rest in one gauge on the right. In the center of dashboard there's a large round binnacle with sound system information, a cd slot, and three dials for the climate control. Cargo capacity is 13. 3 cubic feet behind the 60/40 split folding second seat, and 27. 8 cubic feet with the second seat folded flat. Hatchbacks with fold-flat rear seats are the best value out there, to carry a lot without spending a lot. driving impressionthe 1. 5-liter engine in the mazda2 is one of the smallest gasoline engines on the u. Market, but its performance is exciting, with a 5-speed manual gearbox. We didn't get to drive the 4-speed automatic, but we have doubts, partly because it's only a 4-speed and partly because it's hard to imagine it making the mazda2 any better to drive than the 5-speed. It sounds good above 4000, and zings responsively all the way up to 6300 redline. The drive-by-wire throttle responds quickly. We read one review that called the engine gutless, but we say nonsense. Although if the mazda2 had the fiesta's 119 horsepower from a related 1. 6-liter engine, it'd be way hot.  it's really smooth at 75 or 80 mph. More mazda attention to mechanical detail. Vented discs in front, drums in the rear, with abs, brake force distribution and brake assist.  the suspension is fairly conventional, with macpherson struts in front and a trailing-arm torsion beam in back. We drove the mazda2 over twisty two-lanes on the california coast, and found that it cornered flat and sucked up most bumps. The electric power steering reacts quickly. summarythe mazda 2 is a strong contender in the competitive subcompact segment. Its soft wedge shape is eye-catching, a cute, sporty and practical hatchback. It's way fun to drive with the manual transmission, while getting more than 30 mpg. The engine is small but spirited, the handlin. Power Locks✔ Power Windows✔ Power Mirrors✔ Bucket Seats✔ AM/FM✔ Bluetooth✔ Air Conditioning✔ Climate Control✔ Alloy Wheels

2006 honda accord review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New look, more power. introductionthe 2006 honda accord may be the best of the midsize sedans. The accord simply does everything well. And the coupe packs the accord's attributes into a sporty two-door.  for 2006, the accord gets a freshened look inside and out. Accord v6 models get new 17-inch tires and re-tuned suspensions for 2006. And all '06 accords benefit from enhanced sound insulation.  the accord hybrid, launched as a 2005 model, achieves excellent fuel economy, generates very little emissions (it's at-pzev certified), and delivers more horsepower than the gasoline-only model. The popular lx and ex sedans are terrific cars with comfort and convenience features that make them great daily drivers. Order the leather interior, and the ex becomes an affordable luxury sedan. The v6 adds another level of sporting appeal.  the accord coupe is a quick, no-hassle, high-quality, sporty two-door that's great for commuting. Add the v6 and leather and it's an executive expressmobile.  for these reasons and others, the honda accord continues to be one of the best-selling cars in the u. S. lineupthe honda accord comes in nearly three dozen combinations when all the engines, body styles, transmissions and trim levels are all tallied up. But choosing one is easier than it may sound. It's better equipped, and comes standard with air conditioning, cruise control, daytime running lamps, power locks and keyless entry. The ex is available with leather upholstery, a dvd navigation system, and xm satellite radio.  lx v-6 23,950) and ex v-6 26,850) add not only a 3. 0-liter v6 and automatic transmission, but 17-inch wheels and tires and more luxury equipment as well, including a power glass sunroof and heated side mirrors. All v6 models now come with vehicle stability assist (vsa) and brake assist. Leather is standard on the ex v6. A six-speed manual transmission is now available in ex v6 sedans as well as coupes.  accord hybrid 30,140), combines a v6 gasoline engine and an electric motor to provide significantly more power: 253 horsepower vs. 244 for the gasoline-only v6. It also gets substantially better fuel economy: 30/37 miles per gallon city/highway vs. 21/30 for the standard v6. An automatic transmission is available. The lx v-6 coupe 23,900) comes with the v6 and automatic. The ex v-6 coupe 26,950) is a performance-oriented model, and comes with either the five-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission as a no-cost option; it also has leather seating surfaces.  safety is enhanced on all accords by side-impact and curtain airbags, in addition to the required dual front airbags. Anti-lock brakes (abs) with electronic brake-force distribution (ebd) come standard. All v6 models come with vehicle stability assist (vsa) and brake assist. Ex v6 models are also equipped with traction control. walkaroundboth the honda accord sedan and coupe have been face-lifted for 2006, with a new grille and front bumper, and a new rear bumper, deck lid, and tail lights. Wheels and exhaust finishers have also been restyled.  the sharpened noses of the 2006 accord sedan and coupe are reminiscent of an acura rsx. The corners and sides of both bodies are carefully sculpted with a combination of concave and convex surfaces, in an attempt to achieve a muscular and agile look, with subtle and unique three-dimensional window glass, also intended to reduce wind noise. The aerodynamically efficient side-view mirrors are one of the results of wind tunnel testing. The sedan's drag coefficient, or cd (a measure of how easily it moves through the air), is 0. 30, which is quite slippery. Its flanks and rear deck are more shapely, flowing naturally and gracefully from the roofline. It yields an aerodynamic cd of 0. 29, which is quite slippery.  the accord's doors are built using a unique method that makes them light and strong. Additionally, the coupe earned a five-star rating for front- and rear-seat passengers in the side-impact test.  all accord coupes and most of the sedans are assembled in marysville, ohio. Some sedans are assembled in japan and mexico. interiornew interior styling freshens the cabin of the 2006 honda accord. A new instrument panel, a new steering wheel, new fabrics for the seats, new satin chrome accents around the vents highlight the changes for 2006.  the seats are great, generously wide and tall in the sedan, with springs and urethane padding designed to reduce vibration. The driver's seat provides a one-with-the-car feel thanks to good side support. It features a manual height adjustment (power on premium models) that jacks up plenty high for even the shortest drivers, and yet drops low enough to provide good headroom for taller folks. Front legroom is generous. A tilt-and-telescope steering wheel is standard.  the seats in the coupe seem a bit different and feel even better than those in the sedan. The side bolsters are more aggressive, providing a more secure fit at the torso. The leather is nicer than the cloth.  the sedan's rear bench seat is roomy and comfortable, especially for two people with the center armrest flipped out. Rear-seat legroom is slightly better than in the nissan altima, but the toyota camry provides an inch more.  the accord's trunk is smaller than that of other mid-size sedans, but the flat trunk floor makes loading easy. The accord's trunk measures 14 cubic feet (11. 2 for the hybrid version because of its extra computer and battery pack), compared with the 2006 camry's nearly 17 cubic feet and the 2006 altima's 15. 6. The accord coupe's trunk is slightly smaller than the sedan's, holding less than 13 cubic feet.  the instrumentation is excellent, comprising large, clear analog faces with led illumination, the latter a feature associated with higher-priced luxury cars. A big speedometer in the center dominates the instrument panel. The switchgear, primarily three big dials located in the center of the dash, is simple, if not particularly attractive. Automatic dual-zone climate control is available on ex models.  interior space is used efficiently, with the audio, climate and optional navigation system controls integrated into a single unit. This frees up space for exceptional cabin storage, including a good-sized glovebox, a big center console, a bin under the audio system that will hold 12 cds, and door pockets deep and wide enough for a purse.  honda's interior fit and finish is good. Attention to detail is seen everywhere: coinholders, cellphone cord hooks, grab handles over every door, console lights, power outlets, sunglasses holders, adjustable armrests, convenient and versatile access to the trunk from the rear seat. Up to eight cupholders are provided; a couple of them are big enough to hold a liter-sized water bottle yet feature spring-loaded prongs that can grip a paper coffee cup. But here's the real-world test: we took the v-6 coupe six-speed on a flat-out blast through the malibu hills, engine revving to redline, windows wide open, cd celebrating bob marley, and even with all that exterior noise, max volume on the sound system wasn'. Available as a 4x2 regular cab or 4x2 and 4x4 supercab the ranger is offered in three trims: xl, xlt, and sport. Available transmissions include a standard five-speed manual or an optional five-speed automatic. All rangers include roll stability control with advancetrac, and side seat airbags. 2010 ford edge review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Benefiting from an available all-wheel drive and a fully independent suspension, the edge is easier to control than a truck-based suv in the snow or on wet, slippery roads. Getting in and out of it is easier, too. Yet it gives up nothing in passenger and cargo space. In fact, the back seats in the edge are roomier than those in the explorer, a benefit of its design.  the edge is not small. Considered a midsize crossover utility vehicle, the edge competes with the nissan murano and toyota highlander. All of these vehicles are larger than they look, a result of their slippery styling.  we found the edge roomy and comfortable with fully foldable seats for carrying larger cargo. It drives well, with good performance from a modern v6 engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.  the edge has a contemporary look we find appealing. We like its bold chrome grille. Changes for 2010 are relatively minor. Most significant are engine improvements resulting in fuel economy gains of one to two miles per gallon. All models are powered by a 3. 5-liter v6 engine that produces 265 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque, coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission. Options include a convenience package, which includes an auto-dimming mirror, reverse sensing system, automatic headlamps, door-entry keypad, steering-wheel audio controls, and satellite radio 845), and a roof rack 95).  the edge sel fwd 29,920) and sel awd 31,770) add fog lamps, six-way power driver's seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, keyless keypad entry, six-disc cd changer, automatic headlights, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a vehicle information center. The sel rapid spec package 202a 2,555) includes the leather comfort package (which consists of leather upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, particulate air filter and six-way power fold-flat front passenger's seat), and adds 18-inch chrome wheels and 245/60r18 tires. Other options include a cargo package 555), panoramic vista roof 1,595), ford's sync entertainment and communications system 395), navigation 2,380), and dvd entertainment 1,995).  the edge limited fwd 32,720) and limited awd 34,570) come with leather upholstery, ford's audiophile sound system with nine speakers, ford sync communications and entertainment system, rear park assist, heated front seats, flat-folding six-way power adjustable front passenger seat, memory for the driver's seat and exterior mirrors, second-row reclining and power-folding split seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, universal garage door opener, interior air filter, heated mirrors, and p245/60r18 tires on chromed alloy wheels. Items not included as standard on the limited are available as options, for the same prices as on the sel.  the edge sport fwd 33,920) and sport awd 35,770) come with unique features, including leather seating with alcantara suede inserts; an eight-piece body kit with special front and rear fascias, body-side cladding, and side-skirt rocker moldings; and 22-inch machine-polished wheels. Options available on other trim levels are also available on the sport.  safety features that come standard on all models include dual front airbags, seat-mounted side-impact airbags for the front seats, side-curtain airbags with rollover protection for both rows of seating, anti-lock brakes, traction control, advancetrac electronic stability control with rollover mitigation, and a tire-pressure monitoring system. Rear park assist is available and can help alert the driver to objects or people behind the vehicle when backing up. walkaroundthe ford edge is bigger than it looks in photos. The reason is that it has a wide track and a long wheelbase with short overhangs. The edge is almost eight inches shorter in overall length than the ford explorer yet its wheelbase is just over two inches shorter. Also, the track on the edge is over three inches wider while the overall width is about two inches wider. The long wheelbase and wide track are not just about looks; they make for a more stable vehicle because the majority of the mass is inside the wheels. Visually, this aggressive stance makes the edge stand apart from the relatively tippy look of traditional suvs.  the edge features ford's bold, american design. The big chrome grille is placed well forward and has wide chrome slats that merge into the relatively small headlights at each side. The high hood is short as the windshield rakes forward more like a sports car or modern minivan.  despite having a relatively high waist line with shallow side windows, the edge does not appear as stubby as photographs sometimes suggest. The sporty look is helped by pronounced fender flares and large wheels. The tailgate slopes quite significantly and is nicely rounded, avoiding the truck-like tailgates found on many suvs.  the vista roof adds expansive twin glass moonroofs that cover the whole roof, providing all passengers with a clear view of the sky. There is only a panel, of about one foot, between the front and rear panels that is not transparent. interiorthe edge combines a stylish, comfortable interior with lots of cargo-hauling utility.  front-seat occupants find a generous amount of room, largely due to the vehicle's generous width. There is a large center console with a storage box big enough for a laptop computer. Two decent cupholders reside alongside the substantial shifter. The center stack is angled outward to make it easy to reach the large knobs for the climate and entertainment controls.  the ford sync communications and entertainment system can be controlled via voice commands or dashboard buttons. It can recognize bluetooth-enabled cell phones, access their phonebooks, and play calls and read text messages through the speakers. It also has a usb interface to connect with ipods and other mp3 players (it will charge an ipod). To issue a voice command, the driver hits a steering wheel button and speaks the command. Occupants can tell the system to play a specific artist, album or track stored on an mp3 player. Headroom is also reasonable in the rear, even with the optional vista roof. The rear-center passenger even gets more room than normal in a vehicle of this size, thanks to the wide track. Getting in and out is easier thanks to rear wheels that are placed well back and thus cause less intrusion from the wheel wells.  cargo carrying is an area where the edge excels. The tailgate lifts to reveal a wide opening. With the rear seats in place there's a reasonable amount of cargo room, but pressing a button automatically reclines the rear seats to open up 69. 0 cubic feet of storage space on a nearly flat floor. Furthermore, the front passenger seatback can be folded forward to provide a mostly level floor space for long objects all the way to the dashboard. The rear seatback splits 60/40 for increased versatility and the back reclines several degrees on all models for improved rear-seat comfort. driving impressionunderway, the ford edge handles reasonably well, given its considerable size and weight. Having its wheels out near the corners aids stability and handling. This engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. We found the engine produced a good range of power at all speeds and the transmission shifted smoothly. We would rate the performance as middle of the pack: it's neither a barnburner nor a slug.

2010 chevrolet malibu review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Fitting in the lineup just below the larger impala, the malibu competes with the toyota camry, honda accord, nissan altima, and ford fusion. Malibu blends a smooth ride with responsive handling, a quiet interior, effective crash performance and noteworthy build quality. It strikes a nice balance between well-controlled handling and an even ride. Overall, the new malibu feels smooth and is pleasant to drive.  the cabin is nicely designed, attractive, and everything is easy to operate, though there are some hard plastics that detract from an otherwise first-rate interior. Choosing among them largely comes down to nitpicking, splitting hairs and personal preferences. The camry and accord may have an edge on resale value, but they're also likely to come with higher price tags. In any case, we don't see the gap between this chevrolet and the imports that we used to see. Malibu, camry and accord are all superb midsize sedans.  for 2010, the changes are relatively few. The six-speed automatic is standard with the 1lt trim level, 17-inch chrome tech alloy wheels are standard with the 2lt, and driver's-side power-adjustable lumbar support replaces manual adjustment on all models. Finally, there are some new colors. The base model also comes with electric power steering, to save drag on the engine, while the v6-powered models come with hydraulic power steering. The malibu makes good use of its space, and also has an attractive wheels-at-the-corners look that is substantial, yet clean and crisp.  the body design is bold, long and sleek, with an especially appealing roofline that looks like it belongs on a luxury car. The bodysides are completely clean and uncluttered, and the twin round taillamps pay homage to the corvette. The dual-port grille is a contemporary chevrolet design cue, which gives the malibu a distinctive look, and distinction is an important goal of the midsize sedan designer. Everything is within arm's reach and easy to operate. This design is brought into the 21st century with wood and metallic trim and a very pleasing blue-on-white instrumentation graphic treatment that's flooded with blue light at night.  less noticeable are thoughtful features such as ambient lighting. A feature associated with expensive luxury cars, and recently popularized by mercedes and bmw, ambient lighting helps the driver and front passenger find secondary controls and items around the center console. A cubby on top of the dash is convenient for smaller items and is a very useful feature.  cloth, faux-suede and leather interior options are available. The standard interiors are monotone, but several two-tone interior combinations are available, including a dramatic black-and-saddle leather combination that's very attractive.  we found the leather seats in the ltz quite comfortable. Piping in a contrasting tone dresses them up. The front bucket seats are somewhere between sumptuous and luscious in the way they look and the way they sit, and are very comfortable and supportive.  the long wheelbase affords each occupant plenty of room, and there is ample headroom and legroom in the rear compartment for six-foot-plus passengers. The backs of the front seats are dished out to add knee room. The rear seatbacks flip down to provide a pass-through to the trunk.  while the trunk has 15. 1 cubic feet of cargo volume, the stylish rear pillars are pushed to the far back of the car, creating a small trunk opening that won't accept large boxes.  the cabin includes a dashtop storage bin, door cubbies, and seatback pockets, plus standard ambient lighting for the overhead console and door-pull pockets. We've never cared for roll-up sliding covers on center consoles due to their ability to attract crumbs, dust and debris.  overall, the malibu interior is attractive and comfortable. The quality of the interior materials is good. We think the malibu's interior compares well to the cabin of the honda accord. In fact, it may be more attractive, though the material on the steering wheel hub and the hard plastic on the lower dash aren't as nice. However, the malibu has an attractive leather shift boot when the leather upholstery is chosen, and the accord can't make that claim.  every malibu comes with xm satellite radio and the latest version of onstar with turn-by-turn navigation. However, there's no gps navigation system, nor is there a back-up camera. Chevrolet says many people prefer to use their portable gps units and relatively few want to pay for an oem navigation system. We've heard that view from respectable drivers, but we prefer in-dash units.  big knobs and buttons and an elegant design make operating the audio and climate functions easy. In fact, we found it easier and less confusing to make adjustments in the malibu than in a comparably equipped (without navigation) honda accord; the honda seemed less intuitive and convenient. Unlike the accord, the malibu has the audio controls at the top, which is better because people tend to fiddle with the stereos more than the temperature controls.  remote starting is available. This lets the driver start the car by pressing a button on the key fob from the comfort of the house on wintry mornings, allowing the car to warm up while the driver sits inside sipping coffee. The thoroughly modern v6 has 252 horsepower and delivers performance that is good, if not sparkling, and is certainly as much as most families will ever need. There is certainly no shortage of power or performance.  with the v6, the six-speed automatic is quick to shift, up and down, smooth, lurch-free and quiet. The engine, which has nine different sound attenuators in the air intake system, sounds powerful and smooth.  in fact, everything about the v6 is quiet and smooth. The suspension soaked up rough mississippi farm roads with grace and competence, and kept the car straight and flat without a lot of pitch.

2003 ford expedition review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, smoother, more comfortable, more convenient. introductionford has launched an all-new expedition. This second-generation model shares almost nothing with last year's model. It's packed with new features, but the biggest improvement is its ride quality, a benefit of a new independent rear suspension.  when i last drove the expedition, it was for a long comparison test with one of its prime competitors. My fatigued co-tester was eager to trade vehicles with me. Indeed, keeping the giant sport utility, with its darty steering, sloppy suspension and rough ride, on the straight and narrow was tough duty. A driver could comfortably stay behind the wheel for the entire trip without fatigue, and the expedition would have a great shot at beating competitors in a comparison test. That's how much better the 2003 model is over its predecessor. Ride and handling are greatly improved, the steering is more responsive and more stable on the open road.  new features for the 2003 expedition include a power third-row seat that disappears with the press of a button, leaving a large, perfectly flat cargo area. The interior is all new. A small center seat on the second row slides forward to give front-seat parents access to a small child. Safety is enhanced with a lower front bumper, an optional safety curtain designed to protect occupants in a rollover, adjustable pedals, a tire-pressure monitor, and advanced electronics designed to help the driver maintain control.  the ford expedition and lincoln navigator full-size sport utilities were originally introduced as 1997 models for people who needed three rows of seats like a minivan but wanted to trade the soccer-mom image for the rugged, outdoorsy appearance of an suv. At that time, few competitors existed, primarily the chevrolet suburban and other full-size utilities from general motors. Toyota has since added the sequoia, and gm has launched additional iterations of its full-size and almost full-size sport utilities.  . lineupa choice of engines is offered in the expedition: the standard 4. 6-liter v8 rated at 232 horsepower and the 5. 4-liter v8 that produces 291 horsepower. The xlt is equipped well.  eddie bauer adds front captain's chairs with two tone-leather and 6-way driver power, automatic climate control with rear a/c, a premium sound system, arizona beige lower body side cladding, floor console, overhead console, 11 cup holders, fog lights, privacy glass with power flip-open rear windows, satin nickel grille, homelink, electrochromic mirror, power outside heated mirrors with memory, security approach lamps and integrated turn signals, power adjustable pedals with memory, power driver's seat with memory, reverse sensing system, black non-illuminated running boards.  expedition prices run a wide range: xlt 2wd 30,555); xlt 4wd 33,425); eddie bauer 2wd 37,050); eddie bauer 4wd 41,195). Numerous packages are available for the xlt. A fully loaded eddie bauer edition goes for nearly $45,000.  an fx4 off-road package 4,185) is available on xlt models that features distinctive exterior cues that give it a more rugged appearance, including tubular steel running boards, foglamps, an fx4 badge on the liftgate. Unique 17-inch chromed steel wheels and all-terrain tires complement special shocks tuned for off-road performance.  . walkaroundin spite of all the changes underneath, there is little to visually distinguish the new 2003 ford expedition over the 2002 model. A new expedition owner may be unhappy when the neighbors don't notice they've traded the old one in for the new model. Then again, maybe not. Auto companies have found it doesn't always pay to mess with winning formulas.  with roughly the same overall dimensions as before, the new expedition looks bigger and bolder than its predecessor. The track has been widened nearly two inches to give it a well-planted stance. The standard wheels increased to 17 inches for a bolder look. The roof height is lower. Bumpers are integrated more smoothly into the overall design. Previously, the expedition's interior was virtually identical to the lincoln navigator and the ford f-150 pickup trucks upon which they are based. In this new generation, however, distinctions have been made. The navigator is far fancier than the expedition, which, while quite refined, has a more outdoorsy, everyday workhorse ambiance.  the ford expedition's interior is dressed up with a metallic satin finish on such items as the rings that surround the vents and door handles. Shapes are round, and controls are hefty for an easy grip.  storage space is generous. The front center console available in some versions of the expedition can fit a small laptop computer. The console has a slot to hold pens and a palm pilot or other pdas. The lighter colors used for the upholstery give it a lighter, more car-like air.  the interior features a number of clever and useful innovations, some of them industry firsts. The third-row seat splits 60-40. Push a button on the wall of the cargo area, and one side powers down. Hold down the other button, and the other side powers down. The honda odyssey minivan introduced the fold-flat third-row seat, which is accomplished simply in a non high-tech fashion by pulling a couple of straps. The power-down buttons are more convenient. One side did not power up without a hand because the headrest didn't retract fully, creating too snug a fit against the second row seatback. We assume this has been addressed in production.  when folded down, the cargo floor is perfectly flat, in contrast to some expedition competitors who say the floor folds flat but actually slant. The flat floor combined with the flaps that cover the gap where the seats hinge make it easy to slide objects in and out. It proved invaluable during a variety of typical weekend chores. We changed the expedition repeatedly from a people hauler to a cargo hauler and back again with just a simple push of the button. After dumping that off, a pack of teenagers piled in to go to a punk rock concert. The third row is comfortable enough for a couple of full-size adults. The next day we picked up a high-backed wicker chair from the furniture store.  the second row features a clever feature ford claims is another industry first. The bench seat splits roughly into thirds. The middle section moves forward by about 11 inches, almost abutting it to the back of the front center console. That gives front-seat parents access to a small child or a child in a safety seat. The small center seatback can also be folded down and used as a work surface. The two outboard second-row seats fold easily forward for access to the third-row seat.  the expedition can be outfitted with enough safety equipment to create a cocoon inside in case of an accident. Dual-stage front airbags are standard. The expedition is now outfitted with an independent rear suspension. The suspension, combined with a stiffer chassis, gives the expedition dramatically improved ride and handling. It makes the expedition feel far smaller than the large vehicle it is.  ford introduced a similar independent suspension on the 2002 explorer, but it's more common to cars than trucks. The efficient packaging of the independent rear suspension made it possible for ford engineers to accomplish a fold-flat third-row seat.  yet, the expedition doesn't sacrifice its truck-like capabilities. It still carries heavy loads and tows trailers and boats with the best of them.  another major mechanical improvement to the expedition was the switch to the more car-like rack-and-pinion steering system. The change significantly improves steering response. The new expedition requires only small inputs to the steering wheel, to which it answers immediately.  . summarythe all-. 2007 lincoln mkx review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new luxury crossover suv. introductionthe lincoln mkx is an all-new crossover suv. The tight turning radius of the mkx makes maneuvering in crowded areas easy.  mkx is a five-passenger vehicle. Lincoln eschewed cramming in a third row where it doesn't belong, prioritizing spacious comfort for five and their baggage. Better to provide lincoln's stretch-out room front and rear, along with features like heated seats and a glass roof or dvd entertainment so rear passengers don't feel like second-class citizens. Realtors and other service professionals may find this new lincoln ideal for ferrying clients, especially those who appreciate a good view out.  the mkx shows lincoln heritage in ease of use. Getting in and out is easy, familiarization with operating controls is quick, and the driving characteristics are predictable. In terms of cargo carrying ability, the mkx can carry more stuff than a luxury sedan though not as much as a full-size suv such as the navigator.  the new lincoln mkx competes with the acura mdx, bmw x5, cadillac srx, infiniti fx, and lexus rx. However, the lincoln mkx may represent a better value than many of those competitors, as even fully loaded with all-wheel drive, navigation, big sound and so on, it doesn't top $45,000. lineupthe lincoln mkx comes with front-wheel drive 34,120) or all-wheel drive 35,770). Mkx comes well-equipped with leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, heated mirrors, wood-and-leather steering wheel, and lots of chrome trim.  options include panoramic vista roof with power shades 1,895); sirius satellite radio 195); dvd navigation system 1,995) which includes thx-certified sound system (650 watts, 14 speakers with dual subwoofers), rear-seat entertainment system with eight-inch screen, remote control and second-row wireless headphones; heated front seats 295); heated rear seats 295); roof rack and rails; adaptive headlights; power liftgate; reverse proximity sensors 245); class ii tow package 295) with 3,500 pound rating. The rear-seat entertainment system cannot be combined with the vista roof.  safety features include frontal airbags, side-impact airbags and curtain airbags. Abs and electronic stability control come standard on awd models and are available on fwd models. walkaroundwith stubby overhangs and sizable wheel arches the lincoln mkx presents a stylish profile not unlike some futuristic flying people-mover concepts of 20th-century animators. With a hood just longer than leno's chin and a large expanse of glass it has almost van-like proportions but avant garde design and clever use of colors eliminates any chance of that stigma being applied.  lincoln's mkx comes from the same mold as the ford edge. Door handles are paint-matched and the vista roof is all-black, leading to a black rear spoiler and trim below the rear glass, making the window appear larger than it is. Underneath the hatch glass is a full-width taillamp like lincolns of old, only this one is lit by leds. In total the mkx is clean and distinctive, neither overdone nor generic jelly bean. interiorthe cabin appears to blend traditional lincoln luxury design shapes with a more contemporary palette of materials and colors. The soft-touch dash uses complementary color cues, dark wood trim right out of a chicago chop house, and pewter-colored trim pieces that carry over to the steering wheel and door switch panels; only the lower door panels are obviously plastic, all the easier to clean off shoe scuffs and mud.  a simple grouping of instruments faces the driver beyond a tilt-and-telescoping wood-and-leather steering wheel with redundant controls for sound and climate functions. With eight-way adjustable power seats, the mkx will comfortably accommodate any driver between the extremes of nba forward or jockey, and the perforated leather seats are both heated and cooled, the latter good for a reduction in air conditioning use.  the primary nit noted involved the fuse box that impinges on left foot room and moves the parking brake pedal far from the door; some 20 percent of the time when we engaged the parking brake, we also disengaged the fuse box cover.  back-seat riders should have few complaints because their seats offer the same dimensions as the front; the back seats recline and have seat heaters, reading lights, and a glass roof with a power shade. The back seat is comfortable for two passengers. A third rider will cut the comfort level slightly but not be slighted on safety: an adjustable center headrest and shoulder belt is provided.  cubby storage is plentiful. The glovebox is a decent size and will hold much more than just the owner's manual. The load will have to be lifted above knee high, as would a flat tire being stowed under the floor, the power liftgate housing intrudes on the left side space slightly, and there is a dearth of tie-down points to secure heavy items. driving impressionthe lincoln mkx is all about relaxation, comfort, and style without being saddled with dynamic response comparable to a piece of furniture. For drivers not bent on 0-60 times and engineering-speak about exactly why the car will make that turn at precisely 41. 38 mph, the mkx brings all the cornering grip and stability they need while riding smoothly enough to keep their latte from spilling.  mkx shares its heritage with the mazda6 sedan and mazda cx line of crossover suvs, and this is a solid starting point. It is controlled and competent, neither fast nor slow, and won't upset anyone with bad manners like wallowing or weaving. Spend enough time on potholed pavement or low-profile tires and it's easy to make the argument that average could be a blessing in disguise.  road noise is suppressed, no doubt aided by having the wheels at the corners and away from occupants' feet and backsides. On the downside, some will find the central door pillar blocks their over-the-shoulder view, and the rear wiper could clear more of the glass. summarythe all-new lincoln mkx serves its purpose well, nicely balanced without excelling in any given arena. Its primary advantage amongst its competitors is price, as even a top-line mkx barely clears the base price of its target cross-shoppers. It may be shopped as a fancy, loaded, more traditionally styled version of the cutting edge, with the longer warranty.  newcartestdrive. Com correspondent g. Whale filed this report from los angeles. model lineuplincoln mkx 34,120); mkx awd 35,770). assembled inoakville, ontario, canada. options as testedelite package 4,795) with panoramic roof, sirius satellite radio, navigation, thx audio; ultimate package with heated/cooled perforated leather front seats, adaptive headlamps, reverse proximity, chrome-clad wheels, driver memory, power liftgate 1,995); heated rear seats 295); class ii tow package 295); cargo management system 65). model testedlincoln mkx awd 35,570). 2005 dodge caravan review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The second-row and third-row seats flip down into the floor, leaving a huge, perfectly flat cargo compartment behind the front seats. No other minivan currently has second-row seats that disappear into the floor.  with seating for seven, the grand caravan can carry half the little league team with room left over for their stuff. Selectively folding away the seats gives its owner great versatility in hauling a mix of passengers and cargo. No need to pull seats out and store them in the garage or to try to put stuff on top of them. And its cargo space is more accessible and more convenient than that of suvs.  other new and revised features further improve the grand caravan for 2005, making it a compelling choice among a strong group of competitors that have been recently been redesigned. Also more compelling: pricing, which has been dropped by an average of $3,000.  the shorter caravan models are largely unchanged and have the old seating system. Dodge added new features to the caravan for 2004, including a tire pressure monitor. Its stereo systems feature in-dash, six-disc cd changers.  on the road, the dodge grand caravan and caravan offer a smooth ride and responsive handling. Most models come with a powerful v6 engine that delivers strong acceleration for merging onto hectic freeways. It comes standard with air conditioning, variable intermittent wipers, am/fm/cd stereo, and 215/70 tires on 15-inch steel wheels.  caravan sxt 22,295) is the short van equipped with a 3. 3-liter v6 and a higher level of standard equipment, though it does not get stow 'n go. Sxt adds second-row bucket seats, dual-zone manual air conditioning, tilt steering, cruise control, power windows, power heated mirrors, power locks with remote keyless entry, an upgraded am/fm/cassette/cd stereo, a rear window defroster, sunscreen glass, 215/65 tires on 16-inch aluminum wheels, a tire-pressure monitor, and other niceties, plus an expanded list of options.  grand caravan se 21,995) is a long-wheelbase base model, similarly equipped to the caravan se. But it's powered by the 3. 3-liter v6 engine. Along with stow 'n go, the grand caravan sxt features second-row adjustable seats, a 60/40 split third-row bench with tailgate feature, front and rear cargo nets, dual power sliding doors, fog lamps, rear heat/air-conditioning system, roof rack, eight-way power driver's seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel, steering-wheel audio controls, overhead console with trip computer and compass/temperature gauge, and a new carbon weave center stack bezel.  side-impact curtain airbags are optional. All-wheel drive has been dropped from the menu for 2005. Packages are available in a dizzying array of combinations. walkarounddodge caravan and grand caravan are large vehicles, but not outrageously so. Measuring just over 200 inches long and less than 5-feet, 10-inches tall, even the grand caravan will fit just about anywhere a full-size sedan will fit. Bumper to bumper, the standard caravan measures 189. 3 inches long. Grand caravan's extra 11 inches makes a big difference in the amount of cargo it can carry with all three rows of seats in place. Caravan rides on a wheelbase of 113. 0 inches, while the grand caravan stretches across a wheelbase of 119. 3 inches.  grand caravan and caravan are sleek and attractive with steeply raked windshields and aggressive grilles. The tracks for the sliding side doors are cleverly camouflaged under the rear side windows for a clean appearance. The d-pillars and rear window are steeply inclined for a sporty look, and a discrete spoiler rises from the trailing edge of the roof. Flared wheel openings add strength to the appearance. Headlamps and taillamps are big, the latter wrapping around to the sides. The optional roof rack is hunkered close to the roof, stylistically less obtrusive and perhaps less likely to generate wind noise, but also offering less clearance for the thicker hooks of some tie-downs.  the 2005 grand caravan models are distinguished by a new u-shaped grille with black grille bars, is a design cue shared with the new dodge magnum. The front fascia is new with a molded-in license plate pocket and new fog lamps, while the sides get new body-colored side moldings.  models with power sliding doors on both sides add convenience when moving passengers. Press the button on the remote transmitter twice and the door slides open; press it twice again and it slides closed and seals. From the second-row seat, the power sliding door can be opened and closed by pressing a button; it can also be opened manually. A safety lock switch hidden on the trailing edge of the door can be engaged to prevent a child from opening the sliding door from inside. The power sliding doors can be fussy when passengers are in a hurry to get out, however, and they usually are. Pulling on the outside lever opens the power door manually, with just slightly more effort than opening a regular manual door.  models with manually operated sliding doors are easy to operate, smoothly sliding open and closed with the pull of a nicely designed lever. The outside door handles are comfortable and well designed; they impart a feeling of quality in appearance and operation. All door handles should be this good, but they aren't.  a power rear liftgate is available that adds convenience when picking up groceries or supplies. Press a button on the remote control and the liftgate opens or closes automatically. The material is soft and appears to be durable. Faux carbon fiber trim added a touch of high-tech to the cabin.  the seats in the grand caravan seemed more bucket-like than those of the town & country and not as comfortable. There is a manually adjustable lumbar support, however, and the seatbacks seem to have more side bolstering than the t&c. Exposed screws on the power seat adjusters did not feel aesthetically pleasing. The seating position is higher than that of a sedan, which enables drivers to see over traffic. The second and third rows of seats fold flat into the floor leaving a perfectly flat platform for cargo. Folding and unfolding the seats is a quick three-step process. Pull one strap to drop the seatback, then pull two other straps to tuck it into the floor. This leaves a perfectly flat platform. Very few seats fold perfectly flat and no one else (except the chrysler town & country) has a second row that does this. The system is also flexible. The third row is split 60/40 and either or both of the second-row captain's chairs can be stowed. Grand caravan sxt and se plus models come standard with stow 'n go.  the second-row seats move fore and aft to optimize legroom for rear passengers. Getting into the third row is a little awkward, but easier than in most suvs. Once back there, the third-row seating is comfortable, though the seat bottoms are steeply raked.  the low floor makes getting in and out through the side doors easy. The low load height also makes loading cargo easier, and the grand caravan can carry more stuff and bigger items than any suv. There's a fair amount of cargo space behind the third row. When the seats are in place for passengers, there are wells behind the third-row seats that are perfect for groceries. Another net can be secured between either the s. 2007 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Smooth ride, sharp handling, serious capability. introductionthe ford f-150 comes in a broad range of models, yet they all seem to have nicely balanced suspensions that make them enjoyable to drive and well-designed, comfortable cabs.  they offer a quiet and refined ride over dirt roads, rough pavement and freeway slabs. Yet they also offer controlled handling, with a minimum of body roll in corners. The steering is responsive for cornering and these trucks track like a laser beam on the highway. Brakes are smooth and responsive. The big 5. 4-liter v8 is smooth and quiet, and delivers quick acceleration. It's rated at 300 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque and 15/19 mpg city/highway. The 4. 6-liter v8 and 4. 2-liter v6 engines perform well, also.  the f-150 comes in six distinct variants to meet the different needs of a wide range of owners. Within those variants are three cab choices, three bed lengths, three bed styles, and a choice of powertrains. Ford claims more than 60 possible variations. The f-150 is known for its toughness, strength, and cargo capacity, while offering interior design and comfort. Its amenities show attention to detail.  the base xl is surprisingly nice inside. The fx4's optional captain's chairs are comfortable. The lariat is classy and nicely equipped, with every known amenity. The king ranch has a western feel that's very inviting. The supercrew features a back seat that's roomy and comfortable for adults. Since then, the model lineup has expanded with new trim levels, variations, and specialty models. The 2007 models feature more than a dozen subtle improvements inside and out. Among them:  seat comfort has been enhanced for 2007. A tire-pressure monitoring system now comes standard. Lariat and xlt models get new grilles for 2007. A 5. 4-liter e85 flexible fuel v8 is available, and power for the 4. 6-liter v8 is increased for 2007. A new dvd navigation system and sirius satellite radio are available, and an auxiliary audio input jack is now standard on most models. Power folding mirrors are now available on 2007 fx4 and lariat models, a useful feature for parking in tight quarters.  towing and hauling capacities have been increased for 2007, and ford claims the f-150 is the most capable truck in its class. Properly equipped, a 2007 ford f-150 can tow 10,500 pounds or haul more than 3,050 pounds in the bed. lineupthe 2007 ford f-150 is available in six distinct trim levels: xl, stx, xlt, fx2/fx4, lariat, and king ranch. Each boasts its own interior style and features. Engines, suspensions and cab configurations are designed to meet specific needs.  engines include a 4. 2-liter v6, a 4. 6-liter v8, and a 5. 4-liter v8. The 4. 6-liter v8 comes standard in the popular models. The flexible fuel version of the 5. 4-liter v8 can run on e85 ethanol.  the xl 18,220) is the budget-priced f-150 with a work-truck interior: vinyl-covered 40/20/40 bench seats with manually adjustable lumbar support for the driver, black vinyl floor covering, and an all-plastic dashboard housing a basic am/fm radio. A tire-pressure monitor comes standard for 2007. Xl is readily identifiable by its black grille and fascia, painted silver bumpers and 17-inch steel wheels. Regular cab and supercab (extended cab) styles are available, and the latter comes with air conditioning. Popular models include the f-150 xl regular cab 2wd short wheelbase model with a 4. 6-liter v8 and automatic 20,635) and the v6 and manual gearbox 18,790); a supercab long-wheelbase 4wd with a v8 and automatic is also available 27,275). Chrome bumpers and cloth seats are optional.  the stx 22,765) is sportier than the xl, with body-color bumpers and body-color trim for its black grille, and 17-inch cast aluminum wheels. Cloth seats, air conditioning, and a cd player with an auxiliary audio input jack come standard. Stx comes in styleside and flareside body styles, in regular cab or supercab, with either a 6. 5-foot or a 5. 5-foot cargo box. An audiophile sound system with subwoofer and six-disc cd changer is optional.  the xlt 25,065) is the most popular model, nicer and better-equipped than xl or stx. It comes with chrome bumpers and a chrome-trimmed black honeycomb grille that set it apart from the other models. Carpeting is standard, as is premium cloth upholstery on the standard bench seats or optional captain's chairs. The xlt instrument panel gets more flash than either the xl or stx dash; and power windows, mirrors and locks with remote keyless entry are standard. The xlt features an overhead rail console system that the owner can tailor to his or her needs. Fog lamps come standard on 4wd xlts.  the fx4 30,515) is a special off-road model. The interior features a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a floor shifter, chrome accents, and black rubber off-road floor mats; while the exterior is distinguished by a unique bar-style grille, wheel-lip moldings highlighting 18-inch cast aluminum wheels, and body-color or dark shadow gray bumpers, depending on paint choice. Fx4 is available in regular cab, supercab, and supercrew body styles, but the long (8-foot) bed is not available. The standard engine is the 5. 4-liter v8. The fx4 has its own instrument package with carbon mesh accents on the metallic dashboard. Captain's chairs in cloth or leather are optional, and the standard bench seat adds manually adjustable lumbar support for the passenger. Among the models is the f-150 fx4 supercrew 4wd 35,495).  the new fx2 is a 2wd model that comes in supercab 28,570) or super crew 30,970) versions with a styleside box. It includes a dark accent billet-style grille insert with body color grille surround, unique 18-inch aluminum wheels, available 20-inch aluminum wheels, a chrome exhaust tip, fog lamps, unique captain's chairs with center console and floor-mounted shifter, and a body color front bumper, rear bumper, door and tailgate handles.  the lariat is the luxury model, di. walkaroundin the late 1990s, f-150 went aerodynamically curvy, and although it remained number one in sales, not everyone liked the look. So for 2004, ford returned the f-150 to its square-shouldered roots, with a more utilitarian look that continues essentially unchanged for 2007.  it's a functional look, but in its own way it's at least as stylish as the much-heralded dodge ram. In fact, the f-150 has a unique image, no small feat when designing within the hard parameters imposed by a pickup. It's at once crisp, bold, and sturdy.  in short, we think the f-150 is a great-looking truck.  the f-150 shares styling cues with ford's handsome super duty pickups, including the sharp downward drop in the forward part of the door windows, allowing a clear view of the massive outside mirrors. A high beltline gives the truck visual strength and makes occupants feel more secure.  the nose is square in concept, with a large, bold, big-rig grille opening. Yet the front fascia wraps around to the fenders for a precise, sophisticated appearance. The bodyside and cargo box sheet metal is chiseled, though it looks slab-sided at the same time, a theme that carries through to the tailgate. F-150 is both upscale and utilitarian, a look that's very appealing.  the different trim levels are quite distinctive. Just one example: xlt and lariat have a honeycomb grille (black on xlt, arizona beige on lariat), while xl, stx, fx4, and king ranch wear bar-style grilles.  practical considerations are a big part of the design, and some of this can be easily seen. Every bed, no matter which length or style, is more than 22 inches deep, for a generous margin when hauling larger cargoes. The basic xl is surprisingly nice. At the other end of the spectrum is the king ranch, which has a western feel that's very inviting. We love the king ranch, but it's not for everyone.  in recent years we've found the f-150's front bench seats flat and unsupportive. The seats have been improved for 2007 models, however, and ford says they provide more support and comfort. The front bench is still split three ways: the center section flips down to reveal a console with storage and cup holders. The big difference in the back seats between supercrew and supercab models is rear legroom: 39. 0 inches for supercrew, 32. 7 inches for supercab. New styling, new engines, new independent suspension. introductionmercury has been trying to find its identity since 1939. The new mountaineer is leading the way toward that goal and represents the future design direction for mercury. Though it still shares all major mechanical components with the ford explorer, the mercury mountaineer this time around has made a major design break with the ford version. Mercury chooses not to use the usual model names.  the 2wd v6 retails for $28,730; the awd v6 lists for $30,710. The v8 is a $695 option. No manual transmission is available, so all models come with a new and improved wide-ratio five-speed overdrive automatic transmission.  while all previous mountaineer models were five-passenger suvs, from now on, all will be seven-passenger models, using a third seat that folds completely flat to make room at the rear for larger cargos.  all mountaineers are built to a relatively high specification, with power windows, mirrors and locks, anti-lock brakes, and a class ii receiver hitch for towing. All have the securilock passive anti-theft system and remote keyless entry system, and approach lamps on the bottoms of the side mirrors that illuminate the sides of the vehicle when the key fob button is pressed. Leather-trimmed bucket seats are available as a standalone option with a six-way power driver's seat and dual manual lumbar support for $655. The power moonroof is $800, the neat crosshatched running boards are $395, the convenience group of automatic headlamps, approach lamps, illuminated visor mirrors and homelink is $476. A reverse sensing system that uses sonar to spot objects the driver may not see is $255. An audiophile sound system with in-dash 6 cd changer is $690, and side-curtain air bags that cover almost 65 percent of the side glass area and have a rollover trigger are $495. A class iii/iv towing package for up to 7300 pounds costs $395. A 3. 55 axle ratio is standard on mountaineer, but a 3. 73 axle ratio with limited slip differential is standard with the class iii/iv towing package. walkaroundto walk around the 2002 mountaineer is to take more steps, because it is longer and wider than the previous model to accommodate both the third seat and the new independent rear suspension system. With gray plastic and gray leather to bounce off, the aluminum trim looks terrific. The aluminum trim extends to the main gauges, the tachometer and speedometer, which are done in black-on-white graphics that turn orange-and-white when the lights are on. It takes only a couple of rides to be able to find everything quickly and easily. The front bucket seats are very good, long, thick and comfortable. Optional seat heaters warm the seats quickly, but the buttons are mounted on the side of the seat and can be difficult to find, grouped with the seatback recliner handle, the power seat switch for fore/aft and the lumbar pump switch.  the second and third row seats are very easy to stow. Folding them away reveals a huge 81 cubic-foot cargo bay. All-wheel drive contributes to the mountaineer's handling characteristics because it sends torque to the front and rear tires during normal operation. The mountaineer's system biases torque 35 percent to the front and 65 percent to the rear to minimize understeer. (understeer is when the front tires slip before the rear tires, causing vehicle to push toward the outside of a turn.) the all-wheel-drive system has no switches or levers and needs no driver intervention. There's no low range for serious off-roading, but snow, rain, mud, wet leaves, ice or gravel on the road are no problem. Mountaineer's all-wheel-drive system uses an open differential design with a viscous coupling. Another bonus of the rear suspension is the bigger, flatter load floor and the third seat. Without it, both would be impossible. It's very confidence-inspiring.  a new rack-and-pinion steering system makes the mountaineer much less prone to wandering on the highway than the old steering system. summarythe mercury mountaineer awd starts out at a reasonable $30,710, but options can take it over $37,000.
